It’s the middle of April, and I’m off to the south-west of France to spend a week kickstarting my novel writing creativity in the company of Jane Wenham Jones at Chez Castillon. The sun has decided to shine, the conversation sparkles, and the desired effect is achieved. Words on paper.
Wenham Jones is a fabulous tutor with an ability to support and encourage. The three hours each morning we spent together in our small but determined group are a joy. The feedback from the others is invigorating. Add in the benefit that other writers who are busy working in the house join us at meal times to share tips, tactics, and tribulations, and the week is unremitting joy.
As with any house, it’s not the building that ultimately makes you feel at home. It’s the people, and here I have to declare a vested interest. I’ve known Mike and Janie Wilson for more years than I care to admit, but it’s an absolute joy to see their very special skill of looking after people blossom so abundantly in this gorgeous house. Whether it’s the little touches in your room on arrival, or quickly learning your Food & Drink preferences, Chez Castillon really does become a home from home.
I am loathe to recommend it to lots of other people as I always want to assure that there will be a place for me, but shout about it I will. From the rooftops. Chez Castillon is a very special place. Go.
